The club was founded in 2013 by professional photographer Lou Metzger, now honorary president of the club, to promote interest in photography. That mission has been more than accomplished at this stage. The club has found its permanent home in The Workhouse having spent quite a few years moving around various premises.

While the club is regarded as one of the most sociable around and is primarily focused on developing members photographic skills it has also assumed a significant community based role through its involvement in projects such as the  Santa Shoot, the Tidy Towns Annual Calendar and the promotion of the town via photographs to mention just a few involvements.

The club has also participated in a number of very interesting expeditions including a visit to Iceland and some more local outings.

I have been a member of the club since it started and I have found it has been a great motivator to get my camera out and improve my photography. I have also made great friends.

Since joining the club as a beginner I have seen my photography improve so much and I have learned so much from guest speakers who come to the club.

I love the competitions, it really challenges me to try different things and I look forward to hearing the judges feedback.

I enjoy the social aspect of the club, the craic is great and I like to talk to people who have an interest in photography.
